Keto Turkey Calzone
I will start this one off by admitting I am not a huge fan of turkey burgers. I usually find cooked ground turkey incredibly dry. When I saw the ground chicken calzone trend going around I did think it might be an interesting use for ground turkey but I was skeptical. Most of the clips I saw of the original recipe lacked one thing, any additions at all of seasoning to the meat. So I decided to punch that up and it did not disappoint. The seasoning and pesto here definitely make the turkey itself tender and delicious. This is an easy and tasty meal!
Ingredients:
1lb Ground turkey, 93/7
4oz Mozzarella, hand shredded
2oz Pepperoni
1oz Grated parmesan
1 Tbsp Pesto, divided
½ tsp Garlic powder
½ tsp Italian seasoning
1 tsp Salt
½ tsp Pepper
1 Tbsp Olive oil
Recipe Steps:
Mix together turkey, pesto, garlic, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper. Blend well!
Chill meat mixture for 15-30 min to let the flavors absorb.
Divide meat mixture in 4 balls.
Roll each bowl into a 1/2in thick circle between two pieces of plastic wrap or parchment.
Remove the top layer of plastic. If the plastic sticks bad, chill the circle for a few minutes and it will help.
Top one half of each circle with alternating layers of mozzarella and pepperoni.
Fold the circles in half to enclose the filling. Mash those edges together well to seal!
Brush the top and bottom of each calzone with ½ Tbsp of olive oil.
Use a sharp knife to cut 2-3 slits in the top. This prevents explosions!
Place the calzones into your air fryer, Top each with ¼ oz of grated parm.
Cook at 400F for 15-20 minutes. (You may need to do one at a time depending on your air fryer size.)
Remove and let cool for 5 minutes before eating.
Serve up with a side of marinara or alfredo or whatever you want!
You can also adjust the fillings as you like. The macros here are for this recipe. You can go with swiss and ham, cheddar and broccoli, vegetables of all sorts! Go Wild!
